The Castle Story

Childrens Castle was established by a mother whose young child had been a part of several in-home daycares. Mitza Jackson, had a vision for her then premature baby and hoped after returning to work, she would locate a daycare that shared the same vision.  To ensure her daughter was receiving the promises made, Mrs. Jackson would periodically make unannounced visits to each of the facilities only to discover none of the programs met the vision and expectations she had for her little girl.  In August of 1989, Mitza Jackson resigned from her government job and opened Children's Castle Family Daycare.  In 1992, "The Castle" as it is affectionately called, became Childrens Castle Child Development Center.  The program was complete for her children and the many other children that have been and continue to be a part of the Castle Experience.

Mitza Jackson

Director

As a young child, I always wanted to be a teacher.  It was no surprise when I attained my life aspirations and became the founder, teacher and director of Childrens Castle Child Development Center, LLC.   I studied Elementary Education but received an Associates Degree in ECE.  Over the years, I have received several trainings and certifications in the field of education.  I have been a preschool teacher and director for over 28 years and love each moment of it.  Three of my four adult children were all part of the Castle experience.  I have also served as a consultant for a daycare center in Brooklyn NY,  board member for a christian daycare center in Fort Washington MD and have served as director of a school age program for a private school in Hyattsville MD.  My love for children extends into my church where I volunteer in the children and youth ministry programs.  For the past 9 years, I have served as the Metro Area Pathfinder Coordinator (a co-education christian scouting organization) overseeing 16+ churches with over 500 youth ages 10 - 16. I am committed to the success of all children and youth.  My goal is to plant the seeds of success at a very young age and give each child the foundation they need to grow, learn and aspire to be the individuals God has called them to be.

Tanya Garris

Teacher

I started working at Childrens Castle Family Daycare located  in Germantown Maryland as a volunteer.  I enrolled my daughter, who had a few disabilities in Childrens Castle.  It was amazing to watch Ms. Jackson's interaction with the children and my daughter who was treated as if she did not have a disability. After watching and interacting with the children, I soon asked if I could become an assistant teacher in training.  About a year later, it became apparent that I wanted to pursue training in the field of education.  I went on to receive my child care certification to become a teacher.  I truly enjoy working with children and seek to nurture them  in their overall growth and development by shaping their young minds, academically, socially and spiritually.
